“With the passage of marriage equality in Maryland during the 2012 election, and with many of our
immediate and extended family living in and around the Baltimore area, it seemed all together right that
after fifteen years together, we should get married.

As both of us are atheists and wanted a secular ceremony, we began our search for an officiant who understood and
supported same-sex marriage, and would be able to accommodate our wishes for the ceremony.

After an exhaustive search, we were fortunate to find Robert Karp. His sensibilities and sense of humor
(because that matters), suited us to a tee. After meeting with him, we knew he was our guy!

Throughout the process, leading up to and including the ceremony, Robert was insightful and
supportive. He guided us through the logistics of the ceremony, and the overall tone and tenure. He was
generous with his time and experience.

Our ceremony was wonderful, and it was in no small part to Robert and his respect for the sanctity of
the day, but also the ease in which he laughed through the inherent and inevitable pitfalls.
